The capital city of Belgium, and also the largest, is a perfect centre for your RV adventure. The relatively central location makes it a perfect start off point for not only traveling Belgium, but the rest of Europe as well. Though generally considered a pretty small country, it packs a lot of great things to be done. Yes, the capital city only has 1.2 million people. However, this contributes to what makes it such a great and friendly city. The sheer fact that Belgium has history dating back from c. 580 or even before makes it a great place for history lovers. Well, actually, all of Europe is great for history lovers – but Belgium has a size that makes learning about the country even more intimate. Yet, no matter how much you begin to learn, you must also understand that Brussels is in fact a melting pot of different cultures.
With a mixture of all the surrounding countries, 80% speaking French and 20% speaking Dutch, it sure does make for a great adventure trying to navigate. Although many buildings were indeed destroyed in the 19th century, remains of some old buildings still stand tall and proud of their history. Luckily, if their isn’t enough history to see, places like Antwerp and Bruges will surely fill the gaps and are only a relatively small drive away. Luckily, snowfall is quite rare in Brussels. Yes, it does rain about 200 days a year – but this is okay because of the relatively easy navigation of roads throughout the country. Come and spend a week touring around the great city of Brussels, as well as taking a chance to run around Belgium as well before heading to other European countries that are so close.
Brussels: Cheap RV Hire Rates
With certainly no shortage of things to do in Brussels, you could easily fill your holiday with lots of laughs, great food, and great people. Brussels is well known for palaces, food (chocolate!), beers, and lots of art. What more could one possibly need in life? Brussels is in fact home to over 90 museums, so like we said earlier – if you love history, this is the place to be.
One of the most obvious places to see while in the area is Grand Place-Grote Markt. Thousands of people walk by and take photos of this masterpiece, posing for photos. Then they head to Manneken Pis which is a famous statue of a child urinating into a pool. Comical as it may be, the reasoning could be sophisticated or something so very simple. The reason and inspiration is still debated to this day.
For those who don’t want to look at a statue of a child urinating, you could instead go to one of the 90 museums. Places like Musées Royaux d’Art et d’Histoire have artefacts from all over the world and many different civilizations. If you love dinosaurs, you can’t miss out on the Natural Sciences Museum of Belgium! This place has a dinosaur that was actually discovered in a coal mine in Belgium.
For those who either love history or don’t, you can easily enjoy a beer at the world famous Cantillon Brewery. This place is much like a museum and uses techniques long forgotten in other places making beer. A truly one of a kind experience to be had when it comes to beer drinking in such a lovely city. Just don’t drive your RV if you’ve enjoyed it as much as most do.

Due to the relatively small size of Belgium, it is easy for one to do a great road trip that not only leaves Brussels but goes to a whole other country! If you do choose to stay in the country, head to Namur in southern Belgium via the E411. It is the meeting of rivers and considered one of the most beautiful places in Belgium. The A2 will take you to other famous cities in Belgium like Antwerp. Also, Bruges is only an hour via E40. To give you a taste of how small Belgium is, one can actually drive to Amsterdam in only 2 and a half hours! Or one can go to Cologne, Germany in the same amount of time.
