The Spanish city of Burgos lies in Castille province and is known for its UNESCO World Heritage-listed cathedral and old quarter. Somewhat off the beaten Spanish tourist trail, it is a stop on the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route and gives a refreshing glimpse of Spanish life pre-package tours. Tiny Burgos Airport is a relatively new arrival, with regular flights to Barcelona, London and a handful of other European hubs.
Exploring this little-known region of Spain by hiring a motorhome is a fascinating experience that opens up the rural delights of traditional villages and unspoilt countryside. Major roads are kept in good condition, making driving a pleasure, and there’s a good choice of campsites in the region.
